日本と英語のことわざについて
今回は少し趣向を変えて、『日本と英語のことわざについて』書いてみようと思います。
軽い感じで読んでいただければ嬉しいです(^^♪
英語にも日本語と同じようにことわざがありますが、日本語と英語で全く同じ表現のものもあれば、意味は同じだけれど、言い方に違いがあるものなどがあります。
ことわざは比較的やさしい英語のものが多いので、わかりやすく英語の学習には最適です。
いろいろ見ていると、日本と英語圏の文化の違いなどが見えてきて面白いです。
よく使うことわざを日本語と英語で見てみましょう。
「溺れる者は藁をもつかむ」
(A drowning man will catch at a straw.)
「便りのないのはよい便り」
(No news is good news.)
「早起きは三文の得」
(The early bird catches the worm.)
「郷に入っては郷に従え」
(Do in Rome as the Romans do.)
「河童の川流れ、弘法も筆の誤り、猿も木から落ちる」
(Even Homer sometimes nods.)
「失敗は成功の元」
(Failure teaches success.)
「覆水盆に返らず」
(It is no use crying over split milk.)
「論より証拠、百聞は一見にしかず」
(Seeing is believing.)
のような感じですが、違いを見てみると面白いですよね(^^♪
